Dr. Schwartz and his staff recognize that a patient coming into the office for a consultation may be nervous, upset, depressed, or in pain. We understand that stress may make pain seem worse, so we try to make the office visit as stress-free as possible.
When you arrive, you’ll be asked to complete some simple forms that will give us your contact information, insurance coverage information, the name of the doctor who referred you to Dr. Schwartz, and your reason for seeing him. You’ll be invited into a comfortable examining room where you will meet Dr. Schwartz.
The doctor will take your medical history and listen to your reasons for seeking the consultation. He will give you a thorough neurological and musculoskeletal examination, then leave the examining room to review any x-rays, MRIs, or CT scans you brought in.
When Dr. Schwartz returns, he’ll discuss his findings with you and anyone else you’d like included in the conversation. He will make recommendations, and you can ask questions so that you understand your case and your options very thoroughly. With this information you and the doctor can together make considered decisions about what steps should be taken next.
If Dr. Schwartz advises you to have further tests or other procedures performed, our office staff will make the necessary arrangements for you. We’ll call you back to coordinate dates and times, give you directions, and tell you how to get ready for the procedure. This way you don’t have a tiresome wait at our office while our staff contacts your insurance carrier, obtains authorizations, and schedules the encounter.
If you prefer to make the arrangements yourself the doctor can in some cases provide you with a prescription.
We know that complex medical problems can sometimes be confusing to patients. That’s why we take time to make sure you understand what choices you have and why Dr. Schwartz has recommended particular treatments for you. He knows that your peace of mind is an important component in your health.
